The School of Architecture at Taliesin welcomes Sarosh Anklesaria as the Fall 2019-20 Visiting Teaching Fellow. Anklesaria runs an independent design research practice based in New York and Ahmedabad. He is the recipient of the 2019 Richard Rogers fellowship from Harvard University and the 2019 Art Omi residency. Anklesaria has worked as a senior architect with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, New York City where he worked on the completion of The Shed, a visual and performing art center in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. He has also worked with Herzog & de Meuron, Basel on The Kolkata Museum of Modern Art, as well as with Skidmore Owings and Merrill in Chicago, Preston Scott Cohen in Cambridge and Sangath, the studio of Balkrishna Doshi in Ahmedabad, India. Anklesaria has been a Visiting Critic at Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning. In addition to teaching at Cornell, he has taught architecture at The Pratt Institute, Syracuse University, and CEPT University. Anklesaria situates his work within core architectural values of tectonics, construct, materiality and place. Concurrently the work also aspires for a radical engagement with questions of spatial justice, ecology, globalization, the urban informal and the circular economy. Current design research projects consider agency at both architectural and urban scales. These include a proposal for an itinerant pavilion as an agent provocateur connecting the three built museums of Le Corbusier; as well as an ongoing investigation into the socio-temporal agency of markets in London. His writing, design projects and research have been published in a variety of media including The Architectural Review, Domus, Architect’s Newspaper and Design Today. He has juried on the architecture and design grants panel for the NY State Council of the Arts. Previously, Anklesaria cofounded Anthill Design upon winning the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi International University Competition. His work with the Artist Vasudha Thozhur has been exhibited at the Kunst Museum in Berne. Anklesaria received a diploma in architecture from CEPT University, Ahmedabad, and a post-professional Master of Architecture from Cornell University.
